JOHN & LAURA – Bettystown, Co. Meath

Project Details

This was a 3,500sq ft two story private dwelling house at Bettystown, Co. meath. My brief was to create a Luxurious comfortable interior/exterior and landscaping design concept with contemporary elements throughout.

Description

This was one of the projects; where I was retained to work on, from a bare concrete and block shell. Some might think what can you do at this stage? I would always encourage anybody thinking of getting a total interior design concept done; The earlier I can get involved in a project regardless of size and budget, the more productive I can be for the potential client. I would have no hesitation in saying that I will end up saving the client money and a lot of headaches

I believe strongly when working on a project like this; The exterior of the building and landscaping design is so important to get right; This will give continuity between the outside and the interior.

When arriving at the front door and enter the hallway, you must create the WOW” factor. This emphases on style and use of materials will be carried throughout design concept. In the hallway the floor has been tiled with a beautiful large Turkish marble floor tile which is carried through to the kitchen / South facing dining area. All doors are solid walnut shaker style with a very simple contemporary timber architrave and skirting and painted a selected colour.

To the right of the entrance door there is a luxurious sitting room, a heavy velvet carpet on the floor and featured fireplace that creates the focal point in the room. Feature walls are partially papered and the rest are painted in different tones to complement heavy interlined curtains and bespoke pieces of furniture. There are two no light pendants in this room to help give balance to its size and shape.

In the hallway there is a beautiful bespoke curved walnut and timber stairs to the first floor with a contemporary style carpet runner up the centre. On the first floor you have a master bedroom en suite and walk in dress area; another two large double bedrooms and main bathroom. There is a second stairs on this landing that takes you to an additional two no. double bedrooms and a second bathroom on the second floor attic space.

Entering the kitchen / dining / and the snug room to the right of kitchen, there is a contemporary style kitchen and large island unit. This sets the trend for the this South facing part of the house. The large vaulted ceiling in this dining area and full glazing to the ceiling gives you a wonderful scenes of space and light. We just used blocks to colour in this area to create focal points and large selected light pendent over the dining table is enough to set the mood.

From the dining area you can’t help but notice the checker board paved patio area and those of you that play chess; you could be in your element. At present we are in the process of acquiring large chess pieces to finalise this part of the landscaping to the rear of the house.

The rest of the garden area has been designed to suite my clients circumstances at the moment, they have two young children and they get older the landscape design can and will develop in time. For now there is a timber bridge with selected lighting that complements its shape and selected planting especially in the evening time on one side there are steps again that have selected lighting to highlight the selected planting. At the moment the center of this lawn in laid in grass for obvious reasons, In time this will develop as will the house.
